Scholarship
Since the inception of the Fox River Trail Runners Scholarship Fund we have awarded over $170,000 in College Scholarships to local youth. We generally award, per year, up to six scholarships of $1,250 each, plus a single Scott and Sandy Kurth Scholarship of $2,500, for a total amount of $10,000, to eligible club members in good standing who are involved in running-related activities and will be entering their first year of undergraduate college studies, or returning for second year, at an accredited U.S. institution. The FRTR Board of Directors may award a lesser or greater number of scholarships in a particular year if the Board determines, in its sole discretion, that doing so is warranted.
Each year the scholarship committee reviews applications and considers applicants based on a variety of criteria, including:
- Individual or Family member of Fox River Trail Runners in good standing for at least twelve months
- Academic achievements
- Essay content
- Extent of participant/volunteer involvement with FRTR events
- Coach’s or other’s (non-family) recommendation
- Participation in running-related or other extra-curricular activities
